R1

  • Good Points: Best looking jap 4 cyl bike on the market, Rocket fast! cult following, build quality now on par with Honda, much better than Suzuki, and a lot better than a Kawasaki zx-10.

Bad Points: Slight lack of mid-range compared to the gixxer though (I just fitted a 47 tooth rear sprocket) sorted!

General comments: Bought my 2008 bike after owning a 2004 R1, both bikes are awesome machines, but you need to be a good rider to get the most from them, they are easy to ride below 7000 rpm if you've not been riding big bikes for long......but after 7k.....10k...rpm....things get ballistic, so like I said, beware. Spend 40 quid getting the suspension set up, fit some sticky tyres and off you go. Don ' t let anyone tell you ' you can ' t tour on a sports bike" I ' ve been down into France and the R1 was ample in the comfort area. Just go buy one!

I am in the process of purchasing a Yamaha R1. I have tested it and to be honest it fits the field perfectly. Ok it could have fine tuning here and there but name me a bike that isn't super that does not have its flaws! this at around £3000 is a steal and you are not going to find much better around for a while! I feel the new Aprilla although it is a little quicker does not match this bike for over all performance and it is a case of simply nurturing and taming this machine over experien ...

A great machine. Its RAW. I'm very happy with my 99 Blue R1. Power to weight & power-to-price. Timeless look. Get the Blue one.

I love the Yamaha R1, owned a 2005 and rode it for 15,000 miles with no problems. Just bought a 2008 black R1 and I love it even more. My main complaint is the uncomfortable shared seat.

I Have had the luck to obtain a Mint Blue 2000 5jj Yamaha R1 with only 5000 miles on the clock. My previous steed being a srad GSXR600.In Comparison, I loved my Gixxer, but having the R1 now for 4 months, the smooth power even from 6th, just winding on the throttle and your'e like a rocket.I've been told mine is the last of the carb models and a bit of a loon to ride. But every time I ride it, it just puts a big grin on my face. I have treated it with a bit of respect slowly finding the limits.Of ...

This is my second Yamaha YFZ R1. My first one was a 1999. The new steering damper makes all of the difference in the world in handling for me! The '99 was squirlly when you hit hard throttle coming out of the corners. The 2005 is on a rail... Tires are a riders preference of course... For me, the Metzler ME Z3's went on IMMEDIATELY upon delivery of the bike. They are so much more stable for me. The bike stays wherever you put it in a corner. It is like a servo.... Perfect!

I love my Yamaha R1! She is the most beautiful thing in the world and she excites me. I went to the south of France on it last year, it became a second skin. Mine's 5 years old now, but I can't sell it. The build quality is superb, the finish is excellent, the brakes are keen, the motor is formidable. My only gripe is the handling... but then, my other bike is a Triumph TT600, which has unequalled handling capabilities. I listen to sports car drivers telling me how fast their Mitsubishi, Subaru, ...

Nice looking bike. I'm used to motorcross bikes from a very young age, The Yamaha YZF-R1 was the first road bike I rode and loved it. I weigh 16 stone and found the power is awesome, to say that the front end comes up in the air with my we
